March 7th, 2010

There are tons of free resources online now and if you’d like to find free electric guitar lessons, you’ll be able to find them very simply.

But before that, what is your inspiration to start to learn the electric guitar?

Often the actual reason to learn the electric guitar is often because you wish to be like your idol – the lead guitar player from a famous rock group. This this completely a convincing reason since the most noted member of a rock group is usually the lead guitarist. So of course you need to be like your idol right?

So let’s begin your hunt for free online electric guitar lesson. Just key in “free lessons for electric guitar” into any of the favored search websites. Don’t forget to enclose the phrase in quotation marks to get the maximum topical results. Now if you still cannot find the results you need, expand it further using phrases such as “beginner free guitar lessons” or merely “free guitar lessons”.

Now once you got the results from the search websites, consider the following few key points about the electric guitar.

Straight off the electric guitar and the acoustic guitar are dissimilar in the sense that acoustic guitars have sound holes which permit them to be heard by playing it. Electric guitars must be connected to the amplifiers to hear the sounds. There are naturally some electric guitars that have little sound holes that allow you to hear the sounds even without hooking it up to the amplifier. These are referred to as semi-hollow electric guitars.

Next, electric guitar lessons come in a variety of format. Some only offers an e-book while others include online videos, software, games and DVD instructional videos. You might find many good free lessons for electric guitar online by going through the search results.

One thing you want to note however about free electric guitar lessons is that they will never make you a professional guitar player. You see the reason is sort of straight-forward – these lessons are unfinished. You get bits and pieces here and there that will help you finally to play a few straightforward songs. But to really become a professional, you have to inevitably get one of those paid guitar courses.

Happily though, learning guitar nowadays will not lead you to lose your shirt. You see, traditionally, learning from a guitar instructor will set you back between $30 to $60 per lesson and this is allegedly too much for many budding guitar player.

But with the web, you can learn to play guitar at a little part of that cost. Most net guitar lessons cost anything from $40 to $150 for a complete year of guitar lessons! And that’s what I called a life-saver for would be newbie guitarist.

How To Learn To Play Guitar

March 6th, 2010

Versions of modern day guitars have been around since the middle ages. However, their popularity soared in the mid 1950s when rock and roll legends popped onto the scene. Suddenly every teenager wanted to be a rock star and that meant they need to learn to play guitar.

The guitar looks like a fairly simple instrument to play, but its construction varies greatly and a poorly constructed cheap guitar can cause a beginner to give up almost before he starts. Pianos and wind instruments don’t have much effect on anyone’s learning ability or willingness to persevere because even a lower quality instrument produces good results. Their quality has nothing to do with whether or not a new student quits.

Early practice sessions should be kept to no more than 15 minutes or so. The tips of your fingers are tender, and they aren’t use to this type of contact with thin strings. It can take years to build up the type of calluses needed to actually be a professional player and handle hours of playing at a time.

A cheaper guitar is the usual problem here. The neck over which the strings lay needs to be very close to the strings to avoid the need of pushing the strings onto the neck. Ideally, the strings should be actually resting on the neck of the guitar, almost negating the need to put much pressure on the strings in order to play a particular cord.

If you really want to learn how to play the guitar, you need to invest in the best one you possibly can. If brand new isn’t a viable option, check out some pre-owned models. Music stores usually have a good selection of used guitars of all types – classical, electric, acoustic, and even bass.

Check out some used guitars at a reputable music store. They’re usually pretty easy to find. Get the best one you can afford. Try it out, see how comfortable it is to maneuver the strings. If you are sincerely interested in learning the guitar, it is in your best interests to find a way to pay for one you know will be comfortable to stick with.

It’s important to know what type of music you want to you play. Rock, blues, folk and even classical will require different types of guitars (electric, acoustic, 12 string, bass, etc.). Once you get the feel of the instrument you will also be able to choose between metal and plastic strings, both giving off unique tones for different venues. There are many schools of thought that suggest a bass guitar is the easiest of all to play because you are only playing one note at a time rather than full cords.

Lessons come in many varieties and media. In person, webcam, books, software and even programs you can buy for your video gaming system all have their individual pros and cons. It depends on the time and money you want to invest.

Learning to play guitar is something that interests children and adults alike. We’ve got the super inside scoop on how to learn to play guitar in an instant.

Electric Guitar Lessons: Learning the Easy Way!

March 5th, 2010

An electric guitar is a type of guitar that is played with an amplifier. There are several reasons why people prefer electric guitars over acoustic ones. But most of the time, people who play the electric guitar are into rock music or alike. The electric guitar is capable of producing a wide variation of sounds; thus, being more fit for contemporary music.

For most people, electric guitar lessons are easier than acoustic guitar lessons. For one, the strings of the acoustic guitar are heavier and thicker than the electric guitar. It would be very easy for a beginner to adjust to the electric guitar since it has a soft touch. Then, there are more resources for electric guitars available online.

In most cases, getting electric guitar lessons online would already be enough. These online tutorials would teach you basic chords and basic positions which are basically what you need to be able to play the electric guitar. Playing this type of guitar requires more improvising since it deals with new age music.

The good thing about guitar tutorials is that you can easily find them on the internet. Some of these tutorials are offered for free. When studying an electric guitar it is not really a must to study with a teacher. Improvisation has a lot to do with playing the electric guitar. Therefore, it would already be sufficient to learn it on your own with the aid of electric guitar lessons online.

Learning music theory, however, should not be forgotten. Music theory has a lot to do with your improvement as much as practice has. Luckily, there are several sites nowadays that provide these materials online. This way, it would not be hard for you to input some fundamental music theory on you head. Playing without understanding is not music. Thus, music theory is a very significant part of learning to play the electric guitar.

Learning to play the electric guitar, in general, is said to be easier than learning to play other instruments. That is because guitarists make use of Tabs. Contrary to note reading, guitar Tabs point to you specifically how to play a chord or a note. It shows the actual position of the notes and not just a copy of which notes to play one after the other. The key to becoming good at the guitar is the one and only – practice. There is no real substitute for practice. Once you put practicing your guitar in your daily lifestyle, you will definitely be playing like a pro in no time.

Ibanez AS73 Review – Great Value for the Money!

March 5th, 2010

Few guitar makers have mastered the art of building excellent low-cost instruments as well as Ibanez. This excellence is reflected in the Ibanez AS73, where the price of the guitar doesn’t correspond to its quality. Made in China, the AS73 is a great hollowbody guitar at a competitive price. Let’s see what makes this guitar work.

Ibanez opted for maple for the top, back, and sides with a mahogany neck. This wood choice results in a crisp, clear tone overall. The fretboard is rosewood, bound, and has pearl dot inlays.

A double-cutaway permits effortless access to all 22 of the guitar’s large frets. The guitar sports two humbucking pickups, an ACH1 pickup in the neck and an ACH2 pickup in the bridge.

Finish choices include Ivory, Sunburst, and, our favorite, Transparent Cherry. When we first started putting the guitar through its paces, we were a bit surprised at how good it played and sounded for such an inexpensive instrument. Overall, the build quality is excellent.

Since it’s a hollowbody, the acoustic sound is important, and you’ll be hard-pressed to find a hollow-body guitar in this price range this good. Even if you triple the price, you’ll have to search to find a solid competitor to the Ibanez AS73.

We also gave the guitar a workout using several different amplifiers (from a Mesa Boogie Mark V to a Fender Blues Junior), just to see what kind of sounds we could get from it. We were able to coax a variety of sounds from the guitar, and could see it being used in a variety of different circumstances.

The finish was near-flawless, a real surprise for an instrument in this price range. About the only minor complaint we have is that we did experience some tuning issues due to the plastic nut, but it wouldn’t take an experienced repairman long to cut a new, quality nut.

If you want a hollowbody guitar with some hip sounds and an attractive look but don’t want to drop a lot of cash, you should seriously consider the Ibanez AS73. For less than $400 new, it’s hard to beat.

If you are searching for the absolute best price on a used or new Ibanez AS73, then you must visit Ray’s Guitar Shop, which offers the most competitive prices on all new and used guitars (both electric and acoustic). Whether you want to buy a Fender, an Ibanez, or a Washburn, Ray’s Guitar Shop has what you’re looking for!

Gretsch G5122 Review – Twang Machine on a Budget!

March 4th, 2010

In the last few years, Gretsch has started offering Korean-import instruments of extremely high quality, including the celebrated Gretsch G5122. This guitar offers a lot of “twang” for the buck. So, if you’re interested in a guitar with a little different feel than, say, a Gibson Les Paul or Fender Stratocaster, you should probably give the G5122 a look. What does it have to offer?

The G5122 is a hollowbody guitar that features a laminated maple body and top. The neck is also made of laminated maple and features a rosewood fingerboard with 22 medium jumbo frets. The guitar is a 24.56″ scale with a 1-11/16″ (43mm) nut width. Gretsch outfits the G5122 with a pair of chrome-covered Dual-Coil humbuckers.

The hardware is classy, featuring vintage style machine heads, G-Arrow Knobs, Gretsch knurled strap knobs, and chrome hardware. The bridge is a Gretsch Adjusto-Matic on a rosewood base and a Bigsby B60 vibrato tailpiece.

Our test amplifiers were a Fender Twin Reverb reissue and a Dr. Z MAZ-18 NR 1 x 12″ combo. From the moment we plugged in and strummed our first chord, we were very pleased with the large, vintage sound of the G5122. We pumped out some Brian Setzer, Beatles, and classic rock licks with ease. Often, people will look to replace pickups on lower-cost guitars, but we see no need to do with the G5122.

We tested the G5122 with a couple of amplifiers that we thought fit the spirit of the guitar perfectly, a Fender Twin Reverb and a Dr. Z MAZ-18 JR. The guitar’s naturally “big” sound translated well through these amps. Clean sounds were clear and powerful while overdriven sounds definitely had some teeth to them. Sure, this probably isn’t your guitar if you’re forming a Slayer tribute band, but other than that, it can cover a lot of territory from blues and rock to jazz and country.

It’s hard to find much to complain about with this instrument. One of our few complaints regards the tuners. Although they held their tuning just fine, they didn’t feel very sturdy. These could probably stand to be upgraded.

We were very pleased with the overall fit and finish. The guitar has a unique Walnut Stain finish that also contributes to the classy, vintage feel. Honestly, it make the guitar look a lot more expensive that it really is. We were also happy with the action. We had no issues with either lead or rhythm work. We only had to make some minor adjustments to the bridge and truss rod to get things working the way we wanted.

When you add together the hip sounds, the great playability, and the attractive looks, you’ve got a keeper with the Gretsch G5122, especially given the price (roughly $700 new).

Searching for the best price on a new or used Gretsch G5122? Then please visit Ray’s Guitar Shop today! They offer the lowest prices on all used and new guitars, both acoustic and electric. It doesn’t matter if you’re shopping for a PRS McCarty, an Ibanez JS1200, or a Gibson Flying V, Ray’s Guitar Shop is the place to shop!

Gibson SG Standard Review – Should You Purchase?

March 3rd, 2010

The Gibson SG is a major part of music history although it doesn’t have the same iconic status as a Les Paul or Stratocaster. Artists as diverse as Eric Clapton and Angus Young have used this influential guitar at one point or another.

The SG has found its way into rock, blues, and even jazz artists at one time or another, and the current Gibson SG Standard is the company’s attempt to fuse the best of the past with the present. Not to give away the ending, but we think Gibson succeeded. Let’s take a look at the SG Standard in more detail.

The double-cutaway mahogany body is graced with a mahogany neck and bound rosewood fingerboard with trademark trapezoid inlays. The SG Standard features a 490R humbucker in the neck position and a 498T in the bridge for a wide variety of useful tones.

Like its big brother the Gibson Les Paul, the SG Standard uses a dual set of volume and tone controls as well as a 3-way toggle switch. Chrome hardware is standard.

The first thing we noticed was just how well balanced this guitar is. Having played two hour sets with Les Pauls, we rejoiced at the lighter weight of the SG. I can see how Angus Young can still strut around the stage all night!

The fit and finish (we opted for the Heritage Cherry) were absolutely perfect, and we were able to get very low action on the neck, which made the guitar a breeze to play. No discernible string buzz or dead spots were to be found.

We put the SG Standard through its paces using a trio of amps, a Marshall JCM800 Half-Stack, a Dr. Z MAZ-18, and a Rivera Chubster 55 combo. The SG shined through all three amps, though we especially liked the marriage of the SG and Marshall.

Though the SG lacks the bottom end of its big brother, the Les Paul, it definitely has a bite and character all its own. It cuts through a mix with ease, and we were able to coax world-class blues, rock, and even jazz tones through our amplifier selections. If you’re looking for a solid, USA-made instrument at a solid price (street price is around $1,200 new), then you can’t beat the Gibson SG Standard.

If you are looking for the absolute cheapest price on a new or used Gibson SG Standard, then you must visit Ray’s Guitar Shop, which offers the lowest prices on all used and new guitars (electric and acoustic). It doesn’t matter if you’re looking for a PRS McCarty, an Ibanez JEM7V, or a Fender Stratocaster, Ray’s Guitar Shop has what you’re looking for!
