Playing a guitar is a talent that involves time to learn. For when you first begin, learning to play guitar is like a child learning how to walk for the first time. Only a handful of individuals can pick up a guitar, or any musical instrument for that matter, and learn by ear. Only few can easily master the guitar without the need of first studying guitar chords.

Learning how to play a guitar takes loads of practice. It requires an awareness of how this musical instrument works, where you should place your hands and fingers, as well as how to put them all together to actually produce tunes. Whenever you observe and listen to how a guitarist does his stuff, he makes it appear very easy as beautiful tune flows from the instrument, and his fingers blur across the strings and frets. However, only lots of rehearsal can make such a complicated instrument look very easy to play.

How To Hold A Guitar

In learning to play a guitar, the very first thing you need to practice is how to properly hold the instrument. To start off, place the instrument beneath the crook of your right arm to ensure that your right hand is directly over the hole where the strings are. Remember that this is for right handed players. Next, place your left hand along the fret, or the arm of the guitar. You need to hold the guitar in a way that your left thumb rests across the the surface of the fret bar, permitting all your fingers easy access to the strings along the fret. You should practice strumming the guitar, without mastering the actual notes or chords yet, so you get confident holding and playing the said instrument.

Learning How To Tune It

One of the necessary features of learning to play the guitar is tuning it. If the musical instrument is playing each note appropriately, it means the guitar is appropriately ‘tuned’. If the guitar is out of tune, then every single note shall be wrong and you won’t be able to play correctly. The sound will be off and you will soon become disappointed, and stop–thinking that it’s you who was not doing right. It isn’t you; you just have to accordingly tune the musical instrument. You can learn how to tune the instrument by ear, or you can do what lots of individuals do when they are first understanding how to play the guitar–using an electric tuner. An electric tuner will automatically detect whether the guitar is in tune. You simply strum each string after which modify the guitar until the tuner registers that everything is in their proper tune.

There, now you are all set to study how to play notes, chords, and even music. Just remember it takes determination, perseverance, and desire to completely learn how to play a guitar.

The position of first heavy metal artist belongs to Alice Cooper when he was with a band called The Spiders in 1965. Now its nothing to hear bunches of metal guitarists. A few are VanHalen, Slash and Kirk Hammett.

Now you might be an accomplished guitarist, but when it comes to being a good heavy metal guitarist – do you have what it takes? Heavy metal uses a whole range of techniques which are different from regular lead guitar, and you have to be familiar with them if you want to play in a heavy metal band.

These techniques include power chords, fast picking and palm muting. And if you dont know how to use these, then its time for some fast learning. The only other alternative is to take some metal guitar lessons before you even consider putting your foot on the stage with a metal band. So for a minute, let’s take a quick look at each of these in detail.

Power Chords are the foundation to all heavy metal music. They involve a very simple formula. Two notes are played simultaneously. That’s it! This results in a chord that sounds really good under distortion, which is an essential part of heavy metal music. Since the fingering involves only two fingers, it also allows for quick chord changes, a big advantage when playing metal, which is usually done at a really fast tempo.

But to get the most out of the power chords, you need to be inventive, since these chords have no minor or major tensions. Power chords are an essential tool in your toolbox as you pickup tricks in your metal guitar lessons. And once you’ve gotten power chords down pat, then you can start making some very nice metal riffs.

Palm muting is another basic technique used in all forms of heavy metal, be it death metal, metalcore or thrash metal. When you palm mute, you subdue the sound of the guitar slightly by using the edge of your picking hand, while simultaneously continuing to pick the chord. The way to master this is to put just the right pressure to the strings with your hand to get the right sound you want. You can experiment by moving your hand closer or farther from the bridge.

Taking metal guitar lessons means you’ll have someone to guide you in the right techniques and correct you when you’re doing it wrong. A great teacher will help you find hard to find secrets and help you discover some of your own tricks. With the right lessons, you’ll be rocking out like your favorite metal gods in no time.

For those of you aspiring to learn acoustic guitar there are certain things you should be aware of in order to succeed. This article will explain some of the most important aspects to consider.

There are so many websites on the Internet offering various lessons to learn to play acoustic guitar. You?ll find that some of them are brilliant in their teaching methods while others are extremely poor. Confronted with this dilemma you have to be prepared to do your own research.

The way to maximize the effectiveness of any program teaching you how to play is to make sure that you understand how to practice properly, without this essential skill your chances of failure more than double.

The guitar is one of the easiest instruments to start to learn to play but it?s also extremely hard to fully master. Learning acoustic guitar involves a lot of patience, the motivation to sustain your practice over an extended period of time and a love of music.

If you have been lucky enough to find quality acoustic guitar lessons online then that will be one of the first things they teach you.

Don?t fall into the trap of thinking you need an expensive guitar in order to play your favourite songs to a high standard. It?s much more important to make sure that your guitar will tune up correctly and that it has a low action.

One off the most common questions asked by beginners is ?How long will it take me to learn to play acoustic guitar??

Obviously it depends on what you want to do but you can expect it to take about four weeks to learn your basic guitar chords and strums. From there it will take you about one year to become fluent and comfortable playing guitar songs.

Try not to criticize yourself and think that you have no talent for playing guitar just because you are not improving as fast as you would like. Anything worthwhile takes time and learning this instrument is really nothing more than regular practice with good quality acoustic guitar lessons.

There’s never been a better time to learn to play guitar than now. Free Acoustic Guitar Lessons It’s a good idea to combine learning guitar online with real 1-1 lessons. Finding the best lessons you can is one of the secrets to being able to play guitar well.

If you’ve ever seen a shred guitarist in action, then you know how awesome they can be, with their hands seeming to whirl around the strings and producing sounds that you never imagined a guitar could produce. And if you have some solo guitar grounding, and you’ve tried to shred at home, then you know – its hard. It really needs a mix of speed and technique that is really hard to master.

And if you’ve ever even thought about shredding like Paul Gilbert, Eddie Van Halen or even BucketHead, then please, by all means. Take shred lessons. Shredding lessons will give you all the tips and techniques you need in order to shred like your favorite hero.

Let’s take a look at some of the techniques you should learn from guitar shred lessons: Legato – this is a technique that is more associated with classical music. When playing legato, the notes are smoothly played without pauses in between them. Legato is also commonly used with other techniques like hammer ons and pull offs.

Tapping – this technique enables you to play notes by tapping on the fret board in conjunction with the fretting hand. The two types of tapping are one-handed tapping and two-handed tapping Don’t be fooled by their names – both require the use of two hands.

Here’s a third technique, Alternate picking and Sweep Picking. – These two are very suitable for fast tempo shredding. With Alternate picking, you continuously alternate between up and down pick strokes. This is the style that I play most of the time. In Sweep Picking, you make notes by combining a sweeping motion of the pick. And you match a fret hand technique.

Now once you learn these techniques, shredding lessons will also provide you with drills and tips to speed up your guitar playing. This will help you avoid unproductive techniques and increase your rate of progress. Whats important is that as you avoid these needless mistakes, you also help your guitar playing down the road by not picking up bad habits. Don’t make the mistake of thinking that a talented guitar player doesn’t need lessons. Even the best players can and do benefit from guitar shred lessons.

Bet you didn’t know that Eric Clapton plays the solo on the Beatles song “While My Guitar Gently Weeps”. I think it’s one of the most memorable solos in rock. There’s really no way around it; if you want to learn guitar solos like that, then you have to practice your scales. And while learning chords will enable you to begin playing songs at once, you really have to master scales if you want to play solo like your guitar heroes.

An important scale, if not the most important one, is the Blues Scale. And you really need to master this one. Its actually the minor Pentatonic scale. But with a twist. Its got an extra note added. I guess you might call this…. The “blues” note. And after you’ve mastered this scale, you’ll be able to play about any tune you can try your hand at. You’ll also be able to improvise on your own guitar solos.

Look, we’re wanting to learn guitar solos, right? So lets figure out how to play a basic Blues Scale first. Begin with your first finger pressing down on each of the six strings – all at once. Ready for the next step? Put your second finger on your fifth string. Put your third finger on the third, fourth and fifth strings. Finally put your fourth finger on the first, second, third and sixth strings. Ok, so you’ve got the scale done at least once.

Now do it forwards and backwards. And when you do it, pick downwards and upwards. Keep doing that. This picking technique is called Alternate picking. Aright, ready? Now play with it a little bit. Challenge yourself. Noodle around with it, and see what you can discover with it. Since you’ve now got the Blues Scale behind you, its time to step things up a notch. Start to learn guitar solos with different notes you’ve just picked up from the scale. Stick a bunch of these same notes together in different sequences and you’ve created … your own licks!

And now, you might want to go even further and learn different positions of the various scales. This will give you huge variations in your solos. Just pick a lick and you’re off and running with a cool solo! You can also start playing around with different techniques to make your solos sound better. For instance, slides, vibratos and other stuff like half step bends. A little shredding wouldn’t hurt either! Ok, maybe we’re getting ahead of ourselves here. Taking things even a little further, go online and try playing some of the licks you like… and play along with them. Something I used to do was just play some music on the radio, or an mp3 file, and start jamming to it.

And when improvising, try avoiding the common mistake of playing too many notes. Someone once told me that some of the best notes played, are the notes you don’t play. Some of the best guitarists aren’t after impressing the audience with virtuosity. They just want to communicate a feeling by using their playing.

I know exactly why you wish to learn to play the electric guitar. I know that mainly because I was the exact same way. You would like to play since there exists no more desirable sensation in the entire world than to impress other people simply by performing a couple of of your favorite riffs!

It really is an awesome feeling as soon as you begin to piece together the actual chords and make actual jams. And then the rush you get by jamming some licks is literally out of this world.

Hence, how do you learn to play the electric guitar in the quickest way possible and turn into a guitar God? Below are 3 helpful hints to kick start your advancement:

1. Understand the fundamental chords – this process, in my personal opinion, is the most uninteresting element! However, it really is important. You have to master the primary chords when you wish to learn to play the electric guitar. What I initially did was use a book in order to find out how to read the chords and how to position my hands and fingers. Major slip-up – learning by looking at a book was terrible mainly because I had not any reference point, merely a few photos of the chords. I never knew if my hands and fingers ended up being placed the right way or if the sound was correct. You’re substantially better off either buying a DVD or joining one of the online electric guitar courses so you can discover just what the heck to do.

2. Train, practice, practice – yeah, I recognize you hear this all the time, “if you wish to learn to play the electric guitar, you have got to practice!” Plus just practising is very little fun – you just wish you could pick up the guitar and begin actively playing. Though it’s never that quick my friend. Do you suppose Angus Young, Joe Satriani, or even Eddie Van Halen simply one day picked up the electric guitar, learned some chords and turned into a rock star? Nah, did not happen. You have to set aside time just about just about every day to train to get the chords exact and the hands and fingers doing the job. The more you train, the faster you’ll become a electric guitar Superstar.

3. Play along using music – after you get the common chords down and you train to where you can move from one chord to the next easily, get started playing along with your favorite tracks. Find a number of jam tracks to perform together with. By simply doing so, 1) you will certainly get better and better, and 2) you are going to have a heck of a lot more enjoyment. You might actually begin to learn to play the electric guitar at an accelerated speed after you start playing along to some songs.

After these three elements, the sky is the limit really due to the fact you can easily start to learn hammer-ons, pull-offs, bending and pinch harmonics (if you happen to be into rock or metal) or maybe you can easily learn about various picking approaches and work on your speed to acquire that fluid, rocking noise.

You truly have no excuse NOT to turn into a Electric guitar God. Get off of your butt and learn to play the electric guitar along with some awesome, free video lessons at http://www.learnelectricguitaronline.net and in no time you can be the envy of all of your buddies!

When it comes to playing lead guitar there are a couple of things you absolutely can’t live without. The Pentatonic Scale is certainly one of those things. The most used scale on the guitar by far. In fact pros and guitar gods alike have been using this scale for decades to play many of the classic solos we all love.

The pentatonic scale rules for quite a few reasons. There isn’t a style that you can’t play with it as long as you learn how to use it properly. A real gem if ever there was one and luckily for us anyone can learn how to sound great using this scale.

I’m not saying don’t ever learn anything else. I’m simply saying that the foundation you’ll get as a blues guitarist is worth it’s weight in gold. Learning which notes you can bend into will help you out big time as well.

Thankfully the notes of the scale are super easy to play as they seem to fall perfectly under the fingers. Learn all 5 boxes and learn how to move between them. Don’t be greedy though. Learn 1 at a time and learn to use them well before moving on to the remaining boxes.

These are the patterns of the Minor Pentatonic Scale. Also known as the CAGED system which is based on those five open chord shapes.

And here are the five shapes for the Major Pentatonic. Same deal as Minor Pentatonic. All patterns interlock perfectly.

Except for the root notes these patterns are exactly the same. Great news because you don’t actually have to learn any new shapes. Just changing the root notes results in a totally different formula of how the notes are laid out on the guitar.

One more bonus about the Minor Pentatonic Scale is that it’s hard to play a wrong note. In fact if you learn how to use it properly you can make every note sound awesome! Spending some time learning which notes you can bend from and into will give you the added advantage of really nailing the changes and the chord tones.

The 7 note boxes have real dense sounds while the Pentatonic scale has a nice wide and open sound that work almost in any musical situation. Remember to learn some classic licks as this will help you to develop the much needed vocabulary. Learning classic licks will help you to make sense of the scale and you’ll be learning the same language that players who have mastered the guitar before us learnt. You should then jam them over a backing track and make those new licks your own. Remember to have fun and just go for it!

To learn more about this awesome scale be sure to drop by PentatonicGuitarScale.net This website is dedicated to the brilliance of the Pentatonic Guitar Scale, and you will find loads of video, audio and pdf lessons.
